Reconstruction of the chemical and metallurgical plant of the Ust-Kamenogorsk Metallurgical Complex for processing lead-containing dusts of the copper facility by the hydrometallurgical method

On December 25, 2019, after reconstruction, a chemical and metallurgical plant (CMP) was commissioned in the Ust-Kamenogorsk Metallurgical Complex (UK MC).

The aim of the CMP reconstruction project was to remove arsenic from industrial products of the metallurgical industry of the UK MC Kazzinc LLP in the form of a moderately hazardous compound (iron arsenate), it has an environmental aspect. According to environmental impact assessments, the resulting arsenic iron-containing sludge (AICS) belongs to the III (amber) hazard class (moderately hazardous). AICS is a serious “headache” for the entire mining and metallurgical industry. The world experience in the disposal of this type of waste is to reduce the hazard class and storage (in different variations - on landfills and in mine voids). There are no other technologies for the disposal of AICS.

The designed technological scheme for the processing of lead-containing dust from a copper plant with the removal of arsenic in the form of arsenic of iron-containing sludge according to the technological regulations includes the use of Diefenbach filter presses, CONTINENTAL superchargers and compressors.
